Obituary for James Michael "Jimmy" Jamo
East Millinocket – James Michael Jamo, 64, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at a Boston hospital. His infectious smile and laugh will be missed by all that loved him. May he be bringing joy to all of those that he is reunited with and is meeting for the first time up above. Jimmy was born January 28, 1954 in Millinocket, the son of Nicholas and Rosalie (Galvin) Jamo.
Jimmy grew up in Millinocket and East Millinocket, and was a graduate of Schenck of High School, class of 1972. He went to work at Great Northern right out of high school, and worked there for over 40 years. Jimmy was a hard working man, and in addition to being employed at the mill, he also worked for many years as a part time police officer with the East Millinocket Police Department. Jimmy also served several terms as a town selectman for East Millinocket. In his spare time, he enjoyed working as a stone mason, and worked on many chimneys and rock walls in the area. This was a hobby he enjoyed from the time he graduated high school right up until months before he passed. Jimmy loved to cook and spend time with his family, and will especially be remembered for hosting the Jamo Christmas Party with his wife, Terry. He loved Christmas, and could decorate a tree like no other. Jimmy will be fondly remembered for his humble, kind, caring, and giving ways by all who knew him, and will be lovingly missed as a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, best friend, and soul mate Terry (Manzo) Jamo of East Millinocket; two daughters, Melissa Jamo of Bangor and Lexie Hoxie of Millinocket; a son, Tyler Jamo of New Hampshire; siblings John Jamo and his wife Nancy of Millinocket, Thomas Jamo and his partner Cindy of Indiana, Patricia McKinnon and her husband Richard, Paul Jamo and his wife Laurie, and David Jamo and his wife Tina, all of East Millinocket; a special aunt, Catherine Bonis of Millinocket; his father and mother in law, who loved him like a son, Anthony and Karen Manzo of Sebastian, Florida; a sister in law, Marie Manzo of Belfast; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jimmy will also be missed by a special cousin and her husband AnneMarie and Jay Griffin of Massachusetts, as well as a special friend, Clint Linscott. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by a sister, Mary Catherine Jamo.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 12 – 2 PM Saturday, January 12 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, where memorial services will be held at 2 PM, officiated by Deacon Danny Watson. Spring interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in memory of Jimmy may be sent to the Disabled Veterans of America, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
