Obituary for Henry "Hank" Madore Jr.

Millinocket – Henry “Hank” Madore, Jr. passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Eastern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born January 2, 1930, the 3rd of 10 children born to Henry Madore, Sr. and Leona M. (Murray) Madore.
Hank attended Millinocket area schools and graduated from Stearns High School in 1948. At Stearns, he played and lettered in three sports: baseball, basketball, and football. Hank’s favorite sport was basketball. Starting in 1948, he played for the town semi-pro basketball team, the Emerson/Millinocket Pills, for over 20 years.
In 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Pound, a union that lasted nearly 69 years. Hank supported his family by working at the Great Northern Paper Company (GNP) in Millinocket. He worked at GNP for 39 years, primarily in the maintenance department as a millwright, and retired in 1987.
Hank was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed Jo-Mary Lake and Mountain area and had a camp on Church Pond. He fished, hunted, hiked, berried and cut firewood in the greater Katahdin area. He would often take his grandchildren to swim in Crawford Pond or South Twin Lake, hike the Appalachian Trail, and in the winter to sled down the many hills in the region.
He is survived by his son, Bryant and wife Wendy; grandchildren Heather and Matthew; brothers Ronald, John, and Arnold Madore; sisters Marie Miller and Jacqueline Sopko; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hank was predeceased by his wife Theresa, his parents, an infant brother, and sisters Antoinette, Nadine, and Arline, his best friend William Steeves, and his cocker spaniel, Pal.
Per Hank’s request, services will be private.
