Obituary for Hartley L. "Mike" Grant

Kingman – Hartley L. “Mike” Grant, 64, died Tuesday, July 24, 2023, at his home in Kingman. He was born January 15, 1959, in Island Falls, the son of Hartley L. and Earlene O. (White) Grant.

Mike grew up in Medway, and was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1977. He was a mill worker for several years at Forster’s Wood Products and Diamond International and spent 17 years as a maintenance worker and custodian at Lee Academy before retiring. A member of the NRA, Mike was an avid collector of guns and knives, and enjoyed collecting coins. A Mainer through and through, he loved hunting and fishing, and was a self-proclaimed comedian. His warm and gregarious personality naturally drew people to him, and he could easily draw a crowd talking about mundane things and entertain them for a long time, even if they had never met before. This talent extended to the air, as he was a knowledgeable and experienced amateur radio operator, holding conversations with fellow enthusiasts all over the world. A natural talent with computers, he could solve most any problem encountered. Mike loved spending time with his family most of all, and his absence will be noticed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Edith B. (Worster) Grant; two children, Beverly Clark and her husband Ryan and Melissa Oliver and her husband Ty; six grandchildren, Anna, Sam, and Eli Clark, and Logan, Jericho, and Elizabeth Oliver; a sister, Elaine Craig; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike was predeceased by his father.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Lincoln. Gifts in memory of Mike may be sent to the Penobscot Valley Humane Society, 1 Park Avenue, Lincoln, ME 04457. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Mike’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
