Obituary for Gilbert F. Cyr

MILLINOCKET Gilbert F. Cyr, 92, has gone to be with his beloved wife of 66 years. Gilbert passed after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born May 14, 1926 in St David, the son of Felix and Lena (Ayotte) Cyr. In 1947, he married Theresa Landry of Baker Brook, NB, and they lived in St. David, where they started their family. In 1955, he moved his family to Millinocket, where he started working at Great Northern Paper Company. He retired from GNP after 33 years of employment. Over the next 20 years, Bert and Theresa spent their summers at camp at Smith Pond, and wintered at their home in St Cloud, Florida.
He is survived by his seven children, Mariette Gimmartino, Rocky Hill, CT; Real Cyr, Millinocket; Louise Tapley, Brewer; Janette and Howard Cunningham, Rocky Hill, CT; Alan and Dee Cyr, Hermon; Gail Lapoint, Millinocket and Paul Cyr, Brewer. He is also survived by 10 grand children, 13 great-grand children, one sister, and four brothers.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Theresa, a grandson, James McLean Jr, and two sons-in-law, Jesse Gimmartino and Leonard LaPoint, and three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be announced and held in the spring. Gifts in memory of Gilbert may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
