Obituary for Geraldine D. Dill (Smith)

Webster Plantation- Today, July 19, 2020, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was reunited with her loving husband, Philip. Dorothy was blessed to have her grand daughter, Jennifer at her side when she passed, and the rest of her family there with her in heart and spirit.

Dorothy was born, November 14, 1926, the daughter of George Alfred Smith and Kate McAlpine Smith. Early on in life, Dorothy learned the true meaning of family, by helping care for her 11 brothers and sisters.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Philip Dill, on September 6, 1942. Early in their marriage, with Philip off to war, they resided on the Dill homestead, but years later, they moved to Pickle Ridge, in Webster Plantation, where they would raise their children, Gerald, Grover, Earl and Saralee, and live happily for many, many years. Pickle Ridge is where she forever longed to be...

After raising her family, Dorothy decided she wanted to enter onto the work force. She worked as a cook at the Springfield Normal School in Springfield and also, worked for many years in the home health field, where she made many special friends.

Dorothy and Philip were happiest when their grandchildren came to visit. Weekends and school vacations were always spent at their house, and that’s just how they wanted it.

Dorothy and Philip left behind many lessons and fond memories that their family will forever cherish.

Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Philip; 2 sons, Gerald and Grover; 2 sisters, Beatrice and Mabel; 6 brothers, Lester, Alfred, Herbert, Earl, Elmer and Merlin and a very special great grand daughter, Chelsey Worster.
