Millinocket and Richmond, Virginia – Gene Steven Martin, 58, went to be with the Lord after a long battle with chronic heart failure on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Chippenham Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Millinocket on February 4, 1962, the third of four children to Gene and Cynthia Martin. Gene grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1980, where he played the trombone in their marching band. Following graduation, he worked a series of odd jobs before beginning a career in pulp and paper with the Great Northern Paper Company. Throughout his distinguished career, he worked his way up to superintendent, making paper in mills across New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Virginia. Gene had a passion for playing guitar and for the game of chess, but also enjoyed hunting and fishing when given the opportunity.
Preceded in death by his father, Eugene Martin, and his niece, Jamie Lea Linscott; Gene is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 38 years, Ruth (Pelkey) Martin; their three sons, Jarred Martin and his wife Simone, Timothy Martin, and Benjamin Martin and his girlfriend Chelsea; his four grandchildren, Amy-Lilliana, Ana, J.J., and John; his mother, Cynthia Martin, his three siblings, Debra Bradford and her husband David, Robert Martin and his wife Debra, and Michael Martin and his wife Tonya. Gene will also be dearly missed by many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, August 22 in Virginia. Graveside committal services will be held 3 P.M. Friday, August 28 at the Millinocket Cemetery, East Avenue, Millinocket. In accordance with Pandemic Guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required. Gifts in memory of Gene may be sent to the American Heart Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.

Death takes the body, God takes the soul
Our mind holds the memories, Our heart keeps the love.
Our faith lets us know we will meet again.

John 16:22
And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I wil see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
