Mattawamkeag – Fritz E. Olsen, Jr., 69, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home. He was born December 11, 1949 in Lincoln, the son of Fritz and Lois (Ireland) Olsen.
Following over thirty years of living in a state institution, in 1996, Fritz was presented the opportunity to live in his own home back in his home town. His home was filled with possessions that brought him joy. After years of living with others, he was the “King of his Castle”. In good weather you could find Fritz enjoying the company of his neighbors at his outdoor patio set. His yard became a “gathering place” for neighbors to meet and Fritz enjoyed listening to their conversations. His neighbors, friends, and relatives looked forward to the annual barbecue Fritz hosted every summer. He had a deep love of music which extended to all the genres – from classical to heavy metal. He attended numerous Bangor Symphony concerts and was a “patron of the arts”. The simple things in life brought him satisfaction, a long ride in a car, an afternoon rocking in his chair and enjoying the sunshine, listening to the evening news, growing a small garden, and spending time with his dog, Zoey, who was a fun and faithful companion. He was a very kind gentleman who was also strong-willed. Although he didn’t use words to communicate, he had no problem expressing himself to those who knew him. Fritz was blessed with staff who supported him over many years and were as close as family to him. Their devotion to him was clear; his trust in them was undeniable.
Fritz is survived by his sister, Belinda Hussey and her husband Sean of Texas; two aunts Kathryn Tait and Viena Godbyer of Lincoln; cousins Sheila and Valerie; his KFI support team, Dawn Heald and her extended family members Sarah and Elaine, Heidi Vose and her husband Jon, Cathy Henry all of Lincoln, and Lou Ann Brouillard and her husband Kenny of Lee; friends and neighbors, Mary Barrett, Tony Adams, and Pam Ambrose, and champions Hilary Emery, and Pam Vincent.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Penobscot Valley Humane Society; 1 Park Ave., Lincoln, ME 04457.
Visiting hours will be 4-6 P.M. Thursday, March 7 at the Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Graveside services will be held in the springtime at the Lincoln Cemetery.
