East Millinocket and Brewer – Floyd E. Bolstridge, 89, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 31, 1933, at his parent’s home in Portage (aka “Buffalo”), Maine, the son of and 11th child of 14 born to Wallace and Edith (Clark) Bolstridge.
Floyd grew up in Portage, and was a graduate of Ashland High School, class of 1951, the Aroostook State Teacher’s College, class of 1955, and earned his master’s degree in Education from the University of Maine in 1962. While in college, he met the love of his life, Bertha LaFrance, whom he married on June 17, 1955, and shared 62 years, 2 months, and 1 day with her until her death on August 18, 2017. Floyd taught 7th grade and was assistant principal in Ashland and was Principal at Ashland Central School from 1958-62. Floyd then took a job as Principal at Opal Myrick School in East Millinocket from 1962-87, when he retired. He was a member and past president of the Upper Aroostook Valley Teacher’s Association, the Aroostook Elementary Principal’s Association, the Northeast Elementary Principal’s Association, and a member of the Maine Teacher’s Association, and was Representative Assembly Member of the National Elementary Principal’s Association. In addition, Floyd was a member of the Board of Director’s for the East Millinocket Federal Credit Union and served on the Financial Committee to build the new church building for St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where he was a communicant. Floyd was especially proud of the fact that he served as a principal in the East Millinocket School Department longer than any other principal in the history of the program.
Floyd is survived by four children, Sandra Morin and her husband Jeff, Donna Bolstridge; David Bolstridge and his wife Karen, and Gail Santerre and her husband Darryl; eleven grandchildren, Michael Morin and his wife Amanda Peterson, Christopher Morin and his wife Karen, Bradie Castonguay, Amanda Castonguay, Laura Farrington and her husband Andrew, Heather Smith and her partner Dean Fannin, April Bolstridge, Aaron Santerre and his wife Kylie, Steven Santerre and his wife Lucianna, Matthew Santerre, and Sarah Santerre; ten great grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, Ethan, Benjamin, Lucas, Aila, Maryn, Isaiah, Zelie, and Silas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Floyd was predeceased by a son in law, Jeff Flagg, a grandson in law, Tyler Smith, and his siblings, William, Edna, Hazel, Louisa, Charles (“Bud”), Ruth, Harold, Ruby, Henry, Percy, Lucy, Gerald (“Pete”), and an infant baby boy.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 PM Wednesday, January 4 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, January 5 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket with the Rev. Dominic Savio, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the East Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Floyd may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road Suite 300
