Obituary for Eunice Mary Sibley (Harding)
Lincoln - Eunice Mary Harding Sibley passed away at home in Lincoln on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the age of 91.
Eunice is survived by her son, Clark Hanson and Cheryl, of San Jose, CA.; granddaughter, April Hanson and David of Lincoln; grandsons Christopher Shans and Esther (Tyler and Ryan), Patrick Shans and Iveth, all from California; brother Harold Harding and Joyce of Lincoln; daughter-in-law Esther Jipson of Howland; and many nieces,nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Sibley; and sister and brother-in-law Ann and Bill Jones.
Eunice was born on May 9th, 1928 in Lincoln to Clyde and Mary Harding. After graduating from Mattanawcook Academy she went on to the Bangor School of Commerce, which later became Husson College, and graduated in 1948. Upon graduation she worked for a short time at the Girl Scout Office in Bangor then moved back to Lincoln where she worked a number of years at Eastern Fine Paper. In 1963 she married Arnold Sibley and retired to take care of her son and his friends, many of whom she considered her own.
Eunice was a member of the First Congregational Church in Lincoln where she was a deacon, active member and past president of Pilgrim Daughters, and member of the Chit Chat Club. She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary in Lincoln and later in Springfield. In college she played basketball, was in the sorority Pi Rho Zeta and later became an active member and past president of the Sorority Alumni.
Eunice and Arnold loved to go camping and spent many summers entertaining their granddaughter, April, when she would visit from California. They also loved to fish and caught many trout (behind the big rock). In later years, Eunice continued to camp and went on many bus trips across the United States and Canada. She particularly enjoyed visiting Clark, Cheryl, and April in California whenever she had the opportunity.
Eunice had a special relationship with her granddaughter April who lived with her throughout her teenage years and beyond. When Eunice became temporarily incapacited in 2011, April moved back from California and became her companion and caregiver for the rest of her days.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 6 – 8 PM Friday, January 17 at Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road in Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 4 PM Saturday, January 18.
