Obituary for Elizabeth Hatfield (Mackenzie)

Millinocket - Elizabeth "Betty" MacKenzie Hatfield passed away October 5, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Millinocket, Maine on April 17, 1927, the daughter of Ralph and Charlotte (Banks) MacKenzie Sr.
Betty was a graduate of Schenck High School and Husson University. She served as the Town Clerk and Tax Collector of East Millinocket until moving to Millinocket where she was a bookkeeper at Pratt Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealership until retiring in 1979. She won many awards from the Ford Company for the dealership’s reporting. She was a member of the Phythian Sisters, Eastern Star, and the Baptist Church. She and her husband Richard enjoyed an early retirement and spent their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: Peggy and Glenn Sampson of Windsor, Connecticut, Robert and Carolee Gates of Louisville, Kentucky, Willis and Catherine Gates of Millinocket, Maine; five granddaughters and their spouses: Billie Jo and Randy Shorey of Milton, New Hampshire, Kelly and Matt Mackie of South Thomaston, Maine, Kathryn and Ian Ulmer of Brooklyn, New York; Elizabeth and Michael Gilles of Boston, Massachusetts; and Mari-Elise and Bruce Paul of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Ella Mackenzie of East Millinocket and her aunt Phyllis Banks of Lincoln, Maine. Betty also leaves behind a sister-in-law Gloria MacKenzie, and a special friend Linda Ippoliti. She was predeceased by her son Joseph Gates, her husband Richard Hatfield, and her brother Ralph Mackenzie, Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 PM Friday, October 9, 2020 at Millinocket Cemetery with Francis Megno officiating. Arrangements in care of Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
