Obituary for Elaine E. Allen

Elaine E. Allen
Millinocket – Elaine E. Allen, 94, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at her home in Millinocket. She was born February 27, 1924 in Millinocket, the daughter of Joseph J. and Marion E. (Lyon) Stevens.
Elaine grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1941. She attended Nurse Training School in Augusta, graduating in 1945 and earning her Registered Nurse license. Later that year, on December 26, 1945, she married Arthur Allen after his return from serving 34 months in the Philippines during World War II. Elaine began her work career at Millinocket Ambulance as an R.N., and she delivered many babies in the Millinocket area. She also worked in the Operating Room at Millinocket Regional Hospital, which she absolutely loved. After working there for a period of time, Dr. Mason hired her to run his private practice, which she did for 30 years before retiring. Arthur and Elaine spent their retirement years traveling and driving the bus for the Katahdin Rangers and Katahdin Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. They also traveled extensively with the V.F.W. and the Katahdin Federal Credit Union, organizations which they were both very active with. When not travelling, many happy hours were spent at their camp on
South Twin Lake.
Elaine is survived by two children, Sheila Allen and her significant other Mike Henderson of Brewer, and Paul Allen and his wife Winnie of South Twin Lake; two grandchildren, Brian Allen and his girlfriend Kate of Hampden and Lenny Smith and his significant other Liz of Bangor; four great grandchildren, Alexander Allen, Julia Allen, Jason Smith and Justin Smith; two brothers, Emmons Stevens, and Charles Stevens; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Elaine was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Stevens and Norma Tardiff.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice at Community Health and Counseling in Lincoln for the support, many kindnesses, and courtesies extended to Elaine and her family during her final days, especially honoring her wishes to be at home. You were each a blessing and a godsend.
