Obituary for Edgar George "Ed" Mace
Enfield and Hampden, Maine and Bradenton, Florida – Edgar “Ed” George Mace, age 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 8, 2020 surrounded by family at his beloved camp on Coldstream Pond after losing his courageous battle with cancer. Ed was born in Passadumkeag, Maine on November 12, 1929, the son of Edgar Guy Sutton Mace and Doris B. (White) Mace.
He attended his early school years in Passadumkeag, graduating from Howland High, Class of 1948. Ed graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Beginning Accounting from Husson College. In 1951, he joined the US Army, serving at Fort Devens and Bad Abling ,Germany. After separating from the service, Ed joined Prentiss and Carlilse in Enfield, Maine, and ultimately would be given the position of Vice President of Operations and Sales, retiring in 1991.
An avid outdoorsman, Ed loved hunting season at the woods camp and fishing on the many lakes in Maine with family and friends. Golf became another outdoors event that he enjoyed very much, along with the friendship he gained on the course.
Ed’s first love has been his Lord and Savior and how he could best serve Him. Whether helping to build a new work in Lincoln, Maine or building a new church building in West Hampden, Maine, he sought to provide a way to share his love for Lord. His desire to share included the foreign ministry through Project India and Bibles International. His love for young people and children can be best seen in his tireless work with Living Waters Bible Conference and Youth Camp in Weston, Maine.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 68 years, Daphene T. (Nelson), whom he married on July 1, 1951, in Passadumkeag, at the home of his parents. Also surviving Ed are his daughters Gaynel Brunelle and her husband David of Venice, Florida; Candace Payne and her husband Michael of Newburgh, Maine, Alison Otis and her husband Stephen of Abilene, Texas, and Melanie Speed and her husband, Gary of Howland, Maine. Ed counted it a blessing to have nine grandchildren; Travis Neal and his wife Lorna of Lagrange, Maine, Joseph Payne and his wife, Tyra of Etna, Maine, Christopher Payne of Newburgh, Maine, Brenton Otis and his wife Kaylen of Austin, Texas, Lauren Davis and her husband Chase of Dallas, Texas, Jessica Lowe and her husband Jason of Hudson, Florida, Matthew Speed and his wife Darcey of Greenbush, Maine, Nathaniel Speed and his wife Sarah of Lowell, Maine, and Tyler Speed and his wife Destiny of Milford, Maine. God graced Ed with 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving Ed is his sister, Jean (Mace) Robinson, and many loved nephews and nieces and too many friends to list. Ed was predeceased by his parents, his brother Gordon, his sisters Virginia Saucier and Joan Crosby and a great-grandson, Taylan Matthew Speed.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday, June 11 at the Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Ed’s Homegoing Service will be held 11 AM Friday, June 12, 2020 at the West Hampden Baptist Church, 574 Western Avenue, Hampden, Maine. Officiating will be the Reverend Michael W. Lynn, Pastor, the Reverend Robert Henderson, and the Reverend Wendell Calder. Interment, with military honors, will be 3 PM at the family grave at Gould’s Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag.
