Obituary for Dylan J. Cooper
Lincoln, Hampden, and Orono – Dylan J. Cooper, 24, died Thursday, January 24, 2019 as the result of a tragic accident. He was born October 10, 1994 in Milo, the son of Carl H. and Margaret E. (Beaulieu) Cooper.
Dylan grew up in Lincoln, and was a graduate of Hampden Academy, class of 2014. He attended two years of classes at Eastern Maine Community College, and was at the time of his death, a junior at the University of Maine, where he was a proud member of the UMaine Chapter of Alpha Delta. Dylan held a lifelong passion for all things having to do with science. From his youngest days, he was always thinking and formulating theories, and as he grew older, he would share his theories with his teachers, who were always impressed with his level of understanding and depth of thought. He was a well rounded individual, being affectionately referred to as a “Mad Scientist” because of his analytical ways of thinking, but despite the stereotypes that may accompany deep intelligence, he also had a fun side, manifested through his representation of the University of Maine as Bananas the Bear, an adventurous side which led him to obtain his pilot’s permit and experience the thrill of flight, and a selfless side which led him to share his passion of science by helping others learn scientific truths through everyday life. He taught his friends much about school and life. Dylan was a hard working person, managing three jobs between Hampden, Bangor, and Orono to support himself through college, and transported himself via his electrically motorized bicycle at all hours of the day and night. Recently, he was hired by the University of Maine as a tutor for Electrical Engineering students. Nothing ever held him back from doing anything he dreamt of doing. Dylan’s life impacted many people in his time here, and many people’s lives are better because of knowing him.
Dylan loved his family, and they loved him. His sister, Meaghan, and he were only separated by one year, and grew up being the best of friends. Meaghan played many pranks on him while they were growing up, and brought him many shared times of laughter. They shared a special and unique bond, and while his presence will be missed by all who loved him, it will be especially so for her.
Dylan is survived by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Beaulieu; mother, Maggie Cooper and Everett Dumas of Hampden; his father Carl Cooper of Lee; seven siblings, Nick, Nastassja, Meaghan, Krysta, Philip, Tyler, and Jacob; nephews, Xan and Kadri; a niece, Mailaya; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 10 – 11 A.M. Saturday, February 2 at the Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Richard Malo officiating. Spring interment will be at the Mattawamkeag Cemetery.
