Obituary for Douglas W. Porter

Millinocket – Douglas W. Porter, 86, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at a Millinocket hospital, with his family by his side. He was born December 13, 1931 in Houlton, the son of Lloyd and Murial (Trafton) Porter.
Doug grew up in Sherman Mills, and was a graduate of Sherman Mills High School, class of 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving on the front lines during the Korean War. Doug was a member of Molunkus Lodge # 0165, A.F. & A.M. in Sherman Mills, Francis Elliott Post #4154 of the VFW in Millinocket, and the First Congregational Church of Millinocket. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling, and loved spending time at his camp that he built on the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Doug was a longtime employee of the Millinocket School Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy (Byther-Levesque) Porter of Millinocket; three children, Deborah Levesque and partner Michael E. Madore of Millinocket, Maurice Levesque, III and his partner Tim Watson of North Carolina, and Jason Levesque and partner Jenessa Nappi of Westbrook; three grandchildren, Nicole, Kelly, and Bentley; two great granddaughters, Hannah and Charlotte; and a close relative, Frank and Lynda Ingraham. Doug will also be missed by his loyal and faithful friends, Cali Mae and Zoey. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie Porter.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Millinocket Regional Hospital for the special care and many courtesies extended to Doug and the family during his final days, and also to Gary Santerre for being a very good friend.
Memorial services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the First Congregational Church of Millinocket, 247 Katahdin Avenue, Millinocket, with the Rev. Terry Given, pastor, officiating. Private interment will be at the Sherman Mills Cemetery, Sherman. Gifts in memory of Doug may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
