Obituary for Donna J. Grass (Cropley)

Brookton – Donna J. Grass, 76, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born January 31, 1947, in Danforth, the daughter of Clarence and Dillis (Ellingwood) Cropley.
Donna was a dedicated member of the Brookton Baptist Church for over 40 years, spending many of those years as treasurer and Sunday School teacher. She spent her younger years doing what she loved most, caring for her parents and other family members. While caring for her family she worked as a clerk at Danforth Drug and then as a bookkeeper and store manager at Gillis Yankee Grocer. She often shared stories about her time at Gillis’, fondly remembering customers who frequented the store. It was there that she met the love of her life, Russell. They married on July 10, 1982, and together they had two sons.
While raising her sons, she cleaned camps and summer homes in Forest City and worked as a CNA at Danforth Habilitation Association. Donna enjoyed reading, traveling, baking, watching the birds with Russell, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 41 years, Donna is survived by two sons, Rusty (Melissa) Grass, and Robbie (Kelly) Grass; three step daughters, Hattie (Andy) Grass, Lisa (Mason) Shain, and Linnete (Cowger); twelve grandchildren Emily, Nick, Renee, Rodney, Brandi, Keith, Michael, Felicia, Cole, Sophia, Owen, and Raegyn; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Ginny Cropley and Sally Johnson; a brother, Gary Cropley; sisters in law Rose Williams and Minnie Sue Childers; a brother in law Morris Grass; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as a special niece, Judy. In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her siblings Thomas, Philip, Muriel, Tillie, Robert, Nelson, Roger, and Richard; father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Frances Grass; and stepdaughter Sandra Grass.
Funeral services will be held 12 PM (noon) Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Brookton Baptist Church with Pastor Peter Grenier officiating, with a gathering to share remembrances of Donna and refreshments immediately following. Gifts in memory of Donna may be sent to the Brookton Baptist Church, Brookton, ME 04413. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Donna’s Book of Memories at
