Millinocket – Donat Busque, 88, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at home in the presence of his family. He was born August 24, 1930 in St. Benoit, Quebec, Canada, the son of Joseph and Arthemise (Poulin) Busque.
Donat came to the United States in 1955 in pursuit of the American dream and became a highly respected business owner. In 1957 he went back to Canada to marry his lovely Harriet and bring her to the US. Together they built an empire. Donat worked for Great Northern Paper Company for 11 years, and had many side jobs before purchasing the Hotel Terrace in 1966, followed by his purchase of the Heritage Motor Inn. Donat was president of Busque Enterprises, Boulet Sporting Camp and Maple Syrup Camp. He was a member of St. Martin’s Council #680, Knight of Columbus, the Fin and Feather Club, Northern Timber Cruisers Clubhouse, Master fisherman of Nesowadnehunk Lake, Mayor of Soldier Pond Lake, and Master Creator of the famous Moosecall.
Donat was loved by everyone who met him. He loved to work hard, have fun, fish, hunt, tell jokes, prank people, and entertain friends and his family. He was famous for his infectious laugh, huge personality, and big heart. He always wanted everyone to “Be Happy”.
Donat is survived by his wife of 61 years Harriet; two sons, Jimmy Busque and his wife Diana, and Joshua Dean Busque, all of Millinocket; a daughter, Nancy DeCesere and partner Lewis Hoskins of Glenburn; grandchildren, whom he adored, Erica, Michael and Sarah, Kevin, Ashley, and Jessi; two great grandchildren, Victoria and Jack; four sisters, Rosa, Jeannine, Jeannette, and Jacline; special friends Danny DeCesere and Bobby Lane; and many friends and special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donat is predeceased by brothers, Raoul, Heleodore, and Harvey, and sisters Alice, Jeanne d’Arc, Marie Paul, Marguerite and Clair.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who came to see him and offered support, and also to Community Health and Counseling Hospice Care for the excellent care they provided. As Donat would say, “Have a Good Time!” and “Be Happy!”
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Saturday, January 26 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated later in the springtime. Gifts in memory of Donat may be sent to CHCS Hospice Care, 313 Enfield Road, Lincoln, ME 04457, or to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462.

Dear Harriet, and family,
Our deepest sympathies to each of you. There are no words that can ease your loss. Just remember all the smiles Donat put on so many faces, ours included! A good man has left us, but we are lucky to say we met him and loved him........even when he laughed and teased us all relentlessly! (Mine was a speeding ticket that he never let me forget!) Le taurdeux!
