Obituary

MILLINOCKET and KENTUCKY - Donald R. Rountree, 63, passed away on
December 8 th , 2020 after a brave six month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme,
a highly aggressive brain cancer. Don was born on March 21 st 1957 in Louisville
Kentucky, the first child of Donald and Alta Rountree. Don grew up in Louisville
and worked many years as the VP of Sales for Coca Cola and for The
Performance Food Group and most recently for Lexus of Lexington Kentucky.
Don was a kind and generous father, husband and adventurer, with a larger than
life sense of humor, which brought laughter into any conversation.
Don was a voracious reader and an avid Stephen King fan, he had a passion for
writing, telling jokes, sharing magic tricks and loved attending the University of
Kentucky Football and Basketball games, as well as enjoying the New England
Patriots, but most of all he loved to travel with his wife. They were fortunate to
have traveled for many years together before his illness. One of their most
favorite places, which they considered their home away from home, was Tuscany
Italy. Don loved the Italian people, the culture and food, especially gelato. Don
also loved to visit his other home in Maine during any season and be with his
wife, who he affectionately referred to as his “Maine squeeze”. In October, he
had the opportunity to visit Maine stay in a beautiful cabin on the shores of
Millinocket Lake and enjoyed the fall foliage. Don loved any new challenge,
especially learning new technology; he was an inquisitive man who enjoyed the
art of making new friends anywhere he went.
He is survived by wife, Debora Rountree of Millinocket; three children, Laura
Rountree, Christina Rountree (Kevin) and Aaron (Danielle) Rountree; six
grandchildren, Elijah, Camden, Roman, Liam, Sammie and Sophie, all of
Louisville KY; his mother, Alta Rountree; siblings, Jeanie King, Robert Rountree,
Sonya Taylor and their spouses along with several nieces and nephews. Don is
also survived by his mother-in law, Mildred Mattall of Millinocket and two brother
in laws and their families. Don was predeceased by his grandparents and his
father Donald Y Rountree. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, his services were held
privately in Louisville Kentucky on December 11 th . A celebration of his life is
planned for summer 2021 in Millinocket.
