Lowell – Delmont K. Shorey, 79, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023, in Bangor. He was born September 6, 1943, in Burlington, the son of Richardena Shorey.
Delmont was an Army veteran, and proudly and honorably served 2 tours in Vietnam as a radioman. He was an avid outdoorsman and made use of all his kills. Following the idea that hunting seasons were there for suggestion, there was never a shortage of fresh deer meat for anyone who needed to eat. Beaver soup or pigeon stir fry for his friends at work might be served on occasion, and he knew how to stay one step ahead of the wardens, who later in life became dear friends. Delmont had an interest in many things most people would have lost interest in long before. He was obsessed with jeeps, and always had one, and his jeeps were as well known as he was around the area. He was a prankster and character and was well known for his work ethic in lumber mills and as a taxidermist. He was fiercely devoted to his family, and knew his grandchildren, even when his memory failed him on knowing anyone else. Delmont will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Heidi Theriault and her husband Travis; three grandchildren, Hunter Wheaton and his wife Marina, Olivia Wheaton, and Bree Huntington; a lifelong friend, Timmy Jipson; and many cousins and friends, too numerous to list. Delmont was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Shorey, siblings Roland Shorey, Robert Shorey, Flora Tripp, and Georgia Luce.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held 1 PM Saturday, August 26 at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Burlington. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Lincoln. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Delmont’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
