Obituary for Darrell B. Tash

Chester - Darrell B Tash, 80, died peacefully May 20, 2022, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born March 1, 1942, in Lincoln, ME, the son of Shelton F Tash, SR and Nellie E (Ireland) Tibbetts and also raised by stepmother Dora Tash.

Darrell met his wife of nearly 60 years, Gaylene Lancaster, at Lakeside Roller Rink and they settled in Chester where they raised their family. Darrell worked for over 40 years in the paper industry, the last 20 years as a millwright until its closure in 2004, when he then retired. He also served the town he loved, Chester, as a selectman for many years. Earlier in his life, he was a Deputy Sherriff, but he considered his most important job was being a loving husband and father.

Darrell was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending summers at Elsmore's landing listening to the Red Sox or Country Gold music while sitting around the campfire laughing with family and friends. He was an exceptional gardener with a giving heart, providing family and friends with the fruits of his labor. He was always available with a helping hand. He was a skilled craftsman, building cabinets in his early years and later building cradles for his grandchildren.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Gaylene (Lancaster) Tash, his son Mark and his wife Bonnie of Enfield, daughters Rene' Kein and her husband Patrick of Georgia, Alycia Aiken and her husband Kristofer of Lincoln. Grandchildren Steven Whitney, Brittany Tash, Myranda Gallego and her husband Andres, Brody Marone, and Georgianna Aiken, and a great grandson, Jaxson Gallego. Brothers Terry Tash and his wife Myong Che of Pyeongtaek, South Korea, Carroll Tash Sr and his wife Tina of Lincoln, and Preston Tash and his wife Melissa of Oklahoma. Sisters Loretta Clark of Lincoln, Gloria Jandreau of Bangor, and Darrylyn Costigan and her husband Bob of Waldoboro. A dear sister-in-law, Lynnette Riel of Plattsburg, NY and a Special Aunt, Christine Arnold, whom he called Aunt Neen. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by a brother Shelton F Tash, Jr, a sister, Aloma Voisine, and his best friend, Edwin Tash, Sr, whom he considered a brother.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday May 25, 2022, at Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chaoel, 7 Lee Rd, Lincoln, officiated by Robert Arnold.

Services will be livestreamed, and messages of condolence expressed, at Darrell’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
