Obituary for Darrell E. Flanders

Lincoln –Darrell E Flanders, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, May 5, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 9, 1939 in Lincoln, the son of Searle D. and Madeline (McLaughlin) Flanders.

Darrell grew up in Lincoln, and was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1964. Darrell was a papermaker at the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He loved building and operating all different types of airplanes and boats, as well as fishing, hunting, bargain hunting, going for long rides, and building and designing anything. Darrell was an avid gardener, as well. He will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered for his enjoyment of life and imparting his fullness of life to those he loved.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sheila (Griffin) Flanders; a daughter, Jodi Andrews; six grandchildren, Miranda, Staci, Jada, Abigail, Melonie, and Billy; a nephew, Brian Copeland and his wife Wendy; several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Darrell was predeceased by a son, Shayne Joe, a brother, Eddie Crocket, a sister, Priscilla Copeland, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Howard Glidden.

At Darrell’s request, funeral services will be private.
