Obituary for Brian E. Currie
On Saturday Dec. 28, 2019, Brian E. Currie Sr., loving husband of 43 years to Christine (Langley) Currie and father to four sons passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70.
Brian was born Oct. 17, 1949, in Houlton, ME. He grew up on a pony farm with his mother, Vivian Leita (McDunnah) Currie, father, Edward Charles Currie and sister Pruilla Currie. He would spend summers giving pony rides to people from around the country who visited the farm to buy ponies. He attended Houlton High School before beginning his career as a tractor trailer driver. People from the county knew him as Brian, but the people he knew on the road knew him as Road Lover. Brian drove truck for 10 years before getting into a bridge construction career. Between 1976 through the mid 90’s he worked from a carpenters position up to a superintendent. Some of his highlight projects during his career were: ● 1985 Aziscohos Dam Resurfacing ● 1993 Blanchet - Maibec Bridge over St. John River ● 1995 Nashua Railroad Bridge ● 1996 Queen City Bridge in Manchester, NH With camper in tow Brian would have his family travel with him to project locations. At some point, three of the four boys worked with him on his projects. One son moved on from the bridge building work front, while the other two continued to manage the demands and temper outbreaks while working with their father. During the winters when construction was shutdown he would return to driving a tractor trailer, delivering loads across the country.
Brian loved spending time at camp in Mt.Chase, ME. Fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling were some of his favorite things to do with family up to camp. One hobby that Brian did that stood out was his “junking”. If you need it he likely had what you needed...somewhere.
Brian was predeceased by his mother, Vivian L. (McDunnah) Currie and father, Edward C. Currie.
He is survived by his wife, Christine (Langley) Currie. His boys, Brian E. Currie Jr., his wife Beth; Barry E. Currie; Bart E.Currie; Kirt Currie, his wife Dawn Anne. Six grandchildren: Brandon, Kendra, Kody, Kiera, Aidan and Taebria. Two great grandchildren: Brian and Lily. Sister: Pruilla Currie Niece: Candy and her husband Jared Fitts. Grand niece: Abbie Fitts.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday Jan. 4, 2020 at Community Evangel Temple located at 124 River Road Lincoln, ME at 3PM. Viewing will be from 1PM to 3PM. Following the funeral services there will be a gathering in the fellowship hall below the church to share food and reminisce on some stories.
