Obituary for Benjamin Ercell Hanson

Medway – Benjamin Ercell Hanson, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019. He was born April 20, 1938 in Patten, the sixth child of Fred and Artie (Glidden) Hanson.
Ben went to school in Houlton before the family moved to Connecticut where he attended grammar and high school. At the age of 18, Ben entered the Air Force and served for 4 years. After serving, Ben worked construction as a general foreman for othe better part of his life. While working as a foreman, Ben was instrumental in helping family and friends join the union. During his off time and retirement, Ben enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and in the last few years having his morning coffee with close friend, Elliott McLaughlin. Ben joined the pool league where he made many new friends and he always looked forward each week to the competition.
In addition to his parents, Ben was predeceased by his son, Benjamin Hanson, Jr., “Benji”; two brothers, Fred and Gilbert, sisters Velma, Mary, and Clara; and a grandson, Cory. Ben is survived by daughters Laurie Hanson and her husband Eric of Montana, and Kimberly Moore and her husband Charles of Georgia; grandchildren Emily, Samuel, Erica, and Nicole;; the mother of his children, Linda Spaight of Connecticut; his only surviving sister, June Wasson of Corinth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ben will be fondly remembered by two special friends and neighbors, Tom and Shelly Lee as well as Ben’s second family; his best friend Sherry Prosser, Brandi and Mike Davis, Kevin McLaughlin, Jason and Nicole Prosser and their children Mason, Parker, Eva, and Brynne.

At Ben’s request, there will not be a viewing. A celebration of Ben’s life will be announced at a later time. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home.
