Obituary for Beatrice Shorey

Enfield – Beatrice E. (Willett) Shorey went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, after a brief decline in her health, 25 years to the day after her beloved husband, Lawrence, with her family by her side at Cummings health care. She was born September 21, 1930 in Howland, the daughter of Cecil and Jennie (Shorey) Willett.

Bea, as she liked to be called, was a 1948 graduate of Howland High School. She was a devoted Christian and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus. She was a lifelong member of the Howland Baptist Church. She read her Bible faithfully and enjoyed attending Ladies Bible Studies and Best Years Club.

Bea enjoyed knitting crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning, and baking. In her later years she enjoyed wintering in Florida and spending summers at her camp on Cold Stream, enjoying time with her family kayaking, playing cards, and nurturing her flower gardens.

Bea will be remembered best as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her five children, Linda Wakefield and her husband Doug of Lowell, Timothy Shorey and his wife Cindy Ann of Corinth, Cindy Wallace and her husband Scott of Howland, Tammy Mooers and her husband Dean of Winterport, and Patti Hodgdon and her husband David of Kingman, Arizona; twelve living grandchildren, Dustin Wakefield, Christopher, Eric, and Cecil Shorey, Jeremy and Katie Martin, Jason Harris, Joshua Spaulding, Jennie Sage, and Joy Spaulding, and Adam and Luke Hodgdon; and thirteen great grandchildren; four siblings, Eunice Smart, George and Willis Willett, and Marylou Sherwood; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bea will also be greatly missed by her devoted friend and neighbor Janet Smith. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence “Babe” Shorey, two grandchildren, Heidi and Joel Wakefield, and a sister, Lucille Flemings.

Graveside services will be held 1 PM. Saturday, October 5 at the West Enfield Cemetery with Pastor Dale Chasse officiating. A time of refreshments and fellowship will be at the Howland Baptist Church after the service. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Bea may be sent to the Howland Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 656, Howland, ME 04448. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, Lincoln.
