East Millinocket – Barbara M. Carter, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, October 14, 2022 at a Millinocket hospital, in the presence of her family. She was born July 16, 1941 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Plourde) Grant.
Barbara grew up in Fort Fairfield, and was a graduate of Ft. Fairfield High School, class of 1959. After high school, Barbara went to Bernard’s School of Cosmetology in Lewiston and became a licensed cosmetologist and beautician. She married the love of her life, Harold Carter, on September 5, 1964, and together they shared 58 years, during which time Barbara became known as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She always looked forward to working in her vegetable garden every year right up until the last few. Barbara enjoyed reading, doing puzzle games, and playing solitaire on her Kindle. Barbara devoted her life to her family, and rarely missed a sporting or school event for her children or grandchildren. A talented cook, no one ever left one of her family gatherings hungry, nor were there many leftovers! As the years passed and cooking duties were shared among the family more and more, Barbara always made the rolls and bread, and they disappeared quickly. Barbara will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Carter; three children, Harold L. Carter, III, Tracie Lee Littell and her husband Butch, and Stephanie Louise Thompson and her husband Darrick; five grandchildren, Amanda Supina and her husband Nick, Morgan Campbell and her husband Devin, Joshua Littell and his fiance Madi Szafir, Justin Thompson and his fiance Kayla Falone, and Travis Thompson and his significant other Marissa Marter; three great grandchildren Mackenzie Supina, Taycen Campbell, and Colton Supina; two sisters, Carolyn Campbell and her husband Peter, and Anna Cyr and her husband Pete; a special aunt, Paula Plourde; two sisters in law, Pat Grant and Sue Bird Zanardi; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by three brothers, Phillip Grant, Norman Grant and his wife Elaine, and Paul Grant.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 AM - 1 PM Thursday, October 20 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, where funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Barbara’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
