Obituary for Anne L. Erickson

Millinocket – Anne L. Erickson, 88, wife of the late Albert E. Erickson, Jr., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 12, 1930 in Millinocket, the daughter of Kenneth E. and Daisy A. (Wiseman) Reed.

Anne grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1947. Anne went on to graduate from the Eastern Maine General Hospital school for X-Ray technicians. It was during her time of work in that career that she met her husband. Anne and her husband worked together in her family’s business, Reed Insurance Company, and Anne held her Insurance Agent license for over 40 years. In the 1960’s, she took a job as Millinocket correspondent for the Bangor Daily News. In the 1970’s, she resigned her position to start her own newspaper, the Katahdin Times, at which she filled every position – editor, chief story writer, advertising director, photographer, photo developer, and print editor. The newspaper remained in circulation until 2009. Anne was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Millinocket, where she taught Sunday School, as well as the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce, Onawa Chapter #130, O.E.S., and the Millinocket Literary Club. She loved her family, and was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Anne’s favorite place on earth was her camp at North Twin Lake, and she always looked forward to spending time there. She will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Anne is survived by three sons, Robert Erickson and his wife Sally of Hampden, Ralph Erickson and his wife Sue of Mount Desert, and Richard Erickson and his wife Karen of Sidney; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will also be missed by special friends, Peg and Phil Sturman, Rev. Dr. Patrick Seymour and his wife Sally, and childhood friend Ruth Littlefield. In addition to her parents and her husband, Anne was predeceased by siblings a sister Mary Oldham, and brothers Carl and Kenneth Reed.

Memorial services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, May, 11 at the First Congregational Church of Millinocket, 274 Katahdin Avenue, Millinocket with the Rev. Terry Given, pastor, officiating.
