Obituary for Ann M. Power (Pineau)

Millinocket – Ann M. Power, 88, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 in Millinocket. She was born July 20, 1933 in Jay, the daughter of Thomas and Sadie (Veilleux) Pineau.

Ann grew up in Jay, and was a graduate of Jay High School, class of 1952. After her mother passed away when Ann was just an infant, she was raised by a few of her aunts until her older sisters, Elda and her husband Roland, and Frances and her husband Larry, were old enough to care for her through her formative and teen years, becoming second mothers to her. Ann moved to Millinocket in the mid 1950’s with her husband, where they built their home in Little Italy, and raised their family. Ann was well known for her sense of humor and quick wit, and was well liked in town, and was active in many community activities, from Girl Scouts to serving as president of the Ladies Auxilliary of the VFW and donating her notable cooking talents in many dishes for the Katahdin Area Support Group. Ann loved hosting her children’s friends for homemade pizza in her home, which is a lasting memory for those fortunate enough to have partaken. She and her best friend Rita Pasquine were inseparable, having daily coffee at home, going to Bingo, and they always looked forward to going on Nancy DeWitt’s “Mystery Trips”. Ann was a faithful communicant at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and drew great comfort and strength through praying the rosary. Of all that Ann held dear, her family was always first and foremost.

Ann is survived by four children, John Power and his wife Gilmay, Sharon Burtchell and her husband Paul, Deb Porter and husband John, and Tom Power; four grandchildren, Jenny Power – who Ann helped raise – and fiancé Pat Randall, Sam Burtchell and partner Elizabeth, Ben Vaughn Burtchell, and Cody Porter; a great grandson, Zachary Burthcell; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Ann is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald Vaughn, two brothers, Gerard and Robert Pineau, two sisters, Elda Cote and Frances Simoneau, and special nephews, Jaye Simoneau, Dick Cote, William Cote, and a special niece, Donna Pineau. She was also predeceased by all her in-laws, who she loved to see, talk to, and visit with. After the loss of her husband and Rita, she made four new friends and Bingo buddies, Kay Caruso, Mary Jamieson, Pat Bouchard, and Judy Waltz.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 4 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, May 5 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket, with the Rev. Dominic Savio, pastor, presider. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Ann may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Services will be livestreamed and may be viewed, and messages of condolence expressed, at Ann’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
