Obituary for Ann A. Grant (Richardson)

Orono / Winn -----Ann Adele (Richardson) Grant passed away peacefully February 23,2022, one day after her 84th birthday. She was born at the Workman Hospital in Lincoln, Maine on February 22, 1938. The daughter of Ralph Norman Richardson and Kathryn Louise (Irish) Richardson, Ann grew up on the family potato farm in Lee. She attended Lee schools and Lee Academy where she participated in public speaking, music and academic clubs. She played piano for many school activities. She attended the University of Maine, majoring in Home Economics with a focus on nutrition. On June 11,1957 Ann became the bride of Martin Grant at the Lee Baptist Church.
They moved to Orono in the fall where they continued their studies and moved to Millinocket. From there they moved to Connecticut, back to Lincoln, and then to a number of places involved in paper manufacturing or engineering firms from New York to Seattle, Montreal, Houston, Appleton and Atlanta; as well as a year in Scotland and several months in New Zealand. Travels included all 50 states, several Caribbean islands, Australia, Mexico, Panama and several European countries.
She and Martin have three daughters; Jane Buckley and Sara White of Maine and Amy Lowry of Connecticut. Jane’s children are Megan Delbridge of Maine and Ryan Buckley of South Carolina: Amy’s son is Kevin Lowry, of Connecticut: Sara’s children are Elizabeth Lawson of Tennessee, Axl Wallingford, Carrie White and Keagan White all of Maine. Also, two great grandchildren Kaydence of Connecticut and Hudson of South Carolina. The girls’ memories include lunches of tacos with large deserts, grilled cheese sandwiches with grape jelly, and watching NASCAR races.
In addition to being a homemaker, Ann’s hobbies included clothing design, home decorating and painting. Methods and designs involved oil, acrylic, folk art, rosemaling, wood, ceramic, furniture and spinnaker sails. She learned to do Ukrainian egg design from a neighbor and later held work-shops to teach others. Ann was a member of numerous church groups and enjoyed churches with good choral groups. Her spinnaker sail decorations were seen around Casco Bay, primarily on the more competitive designs. She was a member of St. Mary’s Garden Club in Falmouth. She also knit sweaters and made numerous quilts for the family.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service for Ann at Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln on Saturday March 12 at 1 PM. A social gathering will follow the service, with light refreshment, in the lower level of the 1st Congregational Church of Lincoln, across the street to the rear of the funeral home. Spring interment of the urn will be at the South Winn Cemetery.
