Obituary for Angelo P. Manzo

Angelo P. Manzo
Millinocket – Angelo P. “Angie” Manzo, 84, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at a Millinocket hospital. He was born August 2, 1929 in Millinocket, the son of Eugene and Mary (Moscone) Manzo.

Angelo grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School, before serving in the U.S. Army. He returned to Millinocket and worked at the Great Northern Paper Company. He was Union President of Pulp and Sulfite, a member of the Fin and Feather Club, Donald Henry Post #80 of the American Legion, a member of the board of directors at the Katahdin Federal Credit Union, a member of the GNP Retiree Association at Nesowadnehunk, and the Little Italy Heritage Days.

After many years of service at GNP, Angelo retired in 1986 at age 55 and thoroughly enjoyed the next 25 years doing everything he loved. He enjoyed many hours of hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends at their camp at Pratt Lake, fishing with his buddies at Sourdnahunk, and ice fishing as early in the season as early as possible! He especially loved entertaining family and friends at his home – his door was always open and he welcomed all. He loved his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mary Elaine, Angelo is survived by his children, Gary Manzo and Alice Kelley, Jan Moore and her husband Jim, Gail Manzo, and Tammy Bishop; beloved grandchildren, Vanessa and Bryan Duprey, Samantha and Christopher Doe, Adam Manzo and Heather Marden, and Bethany Manzo; brothers, Fred Manzo and his wife Kathy, Robert Manzo and his wife Karol, and Paul Manzo; a sister, Carmen Doe and her husband John H.; in-laws, Ozzie Porter, Margaret Manzo, Joyce Baron, Richard Lowell, Darlene Manzo, Paul Baker, Tina and Don Snyder, June Ann and Billy Mackin, Delores and Ralph Weston, and Frank and Carol Baker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind many friends, neighbors, and his feline sidekick, Gorbitch.

In addition to his parents, Angelo was predeceased by six brothers, Nat, Johnny, Eugene, Joe, John, and Carl; four sisters, Effie Forshner, Esther Porter, Dolly Lowell, and Barbara Hale.

The family would like to give special thanks to his special nephews, “The Boys”, who took such wonderful attentive care of our Dad and were always at his beck and call.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday, February 22 from 11AM-2PM at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Memorial services will start at 2 pm. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Angelo may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462, or to the Fin and Feather Club, P.O.
