Obituary for Alton L. Twombly

LINCOLN—Alton L. Twombly, 88, passed away peacefully January 18, 2024 at Cummings Health Care Facility, Howland. He was born November 7, 1935 in Monroe, Maine the youngest of five children to Charles and Beulah (Nickerson) Twombly.

He spent his entire childhood on the family farm there before graduating high school in 1954. Soon, he started learning what would become his career in the plumbing and heating trade under the mentorship of one William Hammond. On March 2, 1957, he married Jo-Anne M. Babineau, in Lincoln, Maine. They would go on to purchase a home there in 1962 and raise a family of three children. He eventually earned his master’s license in both plumbing and heating, securing employment at Worcester Bros for over thirty years.
When he wasn’t working, Alton enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, and numerous woodworking projects around the home. He also became an avid reader in later years, especially enjoying works by Louis L’Amour.

Alton is survived by his wife of 66 years Jo-Anne of Lincoln; son Mark and his wife Lynne of Garland; two daughters Diane and her husband Mohammad of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and daughter Betsy and her husband Todd of So. Bristol; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
