Millinocket – Alphena Legassey, 87, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019. She was born May 7, 1932 in Millinocket, the daughter of Joseph and Celia (King) Blanchette.
She was a communicant of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish. Alphena was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1949, and was Salutatorian of her class. She worked for a few years at O.S. Alphena enjoyed the family reunions at the family cottage in Grindstone. She also enjoyed Bible study, Meals for Me, and fellowshipping with the ladies who lived in the same apartment building where she resided.
Since losing most of her eyesight, her sister Doris was her helper and “chauffeur” when her children could not. She appreciated the help so much.
Alphena is survived by three loving daughters, Deborah Jean Smith of Briarcliff, Texas, Celia Ann Brunette and her husband John of North Andover, Massachusetts, and Ann Marie Duplisea and her husband Wade of Bradley; eight grandchildren, who were very precious to her, Ryan Collity and his wife Jennifer, Graham Collity, Cameron, Nathan, and Evan Smith, and Aaron and Angela Brunette; a step granddaughter Whitney Duplisea; two great grandchildren, Parker and Reagan Collity; a step great grandson, Kaiden St. Louis; a sister, Doris Davis and her husband Charles; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Michael LeGassey, sister Yvonne Laws, a brother, Roland Blanchette, and a son in law, Lee Smith.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 9-10 A.M. Saturday, August 31 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. immediately after visitation, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery.
