Obituary for Alice L. Shaw

Millinocket – Alice L. (Lere) Shaw, 91, wife of the late Page Shaw, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at a Bangor hospital. She was born December 28, 1931 in Lamoure, North Dakota, the daughter of Louis and Marie (Sandness) Lere.
Alice grew up on a farm in Lamoure, ND, and was a graduate of Lamoure High School. On December 17, 1955 she married the love of her life, R. Page Shaw, and they shared 63 years together until his death in 2018. For 17 years, Alice worked at Katahdin Health Care in Millinocket, and she loved her job there, and she was loved by the residents and her fellow employees. She was a woman of strong faith and loved her family. Alice was known as an excellent cook, and in true New England tradition, could be counted on to have homemade baked beans and bread on Saturday night. Her cookies were always perfect in shape, size, and deliciousness. Summers were always highlighted by her wild Maine blueberry pie, and her Chop Suey cannot be duplicated, though many have tried. Alice loved sharing a cup of coffee, for both the conversation encouraged and the coffee itself. Her cup was always filled to the brim, as was anyone’s partaking with her. As many of her contemporaries and friends did, Alice anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed Polly Boynton’s Bus Trips, Nancy DeWitt’s “Mystery Trips” as well as golfing with Page and the ladies’ leagues.
She is survived by four children, Marie Johnson and her husband John, Timothy Shaw and his wife Colleen, Patricia Miller and her husband Michael, and Paul Shaw and his wife Christine; five grandchildren Christopher Miller, Alicia Silverman and her husband Kenny, Brian Johnson, Jared Shaw, and Laura Shaw; four great grandchildren Abbie Johnston, Clinton Miller, Charlotte Silverman, and Jackson Silverman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Alice predeceased by sisters Kathryn Norberg, Mildred Houge, Florence Lere, and Muriel Lere; and brothers Orville Lere, Leonard Lere, Glenn Lere, Roland Lere, and Lowell Lere.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 A.M. – 12 P.M. Saturday, November 18 at the Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Avenue, Millinocket, where funeral services will begin at 12 P.M., officiated by the Rev. Tim Bossie, pastor. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Alice may be sent to the The Memorial Fund at Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Avenue, Millinocket, ME 04462.
